Alamance Community is a community college located in Graham, North Carolina. The school serves the area of Alamance County. It was established in 1958 when North Carolina decided to create the educational system known as industrial education centers for certain areas and districts within the state. Then in 1962 under new legislation, the administration of these industrial education centers was transferred to the North Carolina State Board of Education, Department of Community Colleges. ACC has an average student body of over 5,000 students per year.
When the school first started, Alamance Community College offered 15 programs, such as industrial chemistry, yarn and fabric analysis, loom fixing, and machine shop. But by the 1970s, course offerings also included computer systems, secretarial skills, drafting, and chemical technology. In today’s College there are now options for traditional technical courses as well as updated courses such as biotechnology, culinary technology, medical laboratory technology, and a variety of of university transfer courses. Other school programs that are offered include Animal Care, Biotechnology, Culinary Technology, Horticulture, and Dental Assisting.
